Gary's career in the hospitality industry began as a district sales manager for Winegardner and Hammons, a national hotel management company based in Cincinnati. In that position he was responsible for 13 hotels. Nine months later he was promoted to assistant vice president of sales and marketing, responsible for sales training and marketing strategies for 40 hotels.
In 1986, he became vice president of sales and marketing at Omni Hotel in Baltimore. After completing his contract with Omni, Gary took on the challenge of working with resorts. His first project took place at Hawks Cay Resort and Marina in the Florida Keys, repositioning the resort as an entertainment destination and placing it into the international market. From Hawks Cay, Gary branched out to consult at other resorts, including the lavish Lodge at Koele and Maneoli Bay, 5-star resorts on the exotic Hawaiian island of Lanaii.
Gary's interest in casinos started when he was invited to become the vice president of marketing for a new riverboat casino in Rock Island, Illinois. He helped Jumer's Casino Rock Island exceed its revenue projections, and he helped design and implement an integrated economic/entertainment development strategy with the city of Rock Island, creating "The District." With the casino as its main entertainment destination, "The District" generated $70 million in new business expansion and development.
With that success behind him, Gary moved back to Florida and formed High Performance Profits. He tied in all his experience in entertainment, psychology, training, sales, hospitality, resorts and casinos and took on his first major project—moving a tired casino riverboat from Dubuque, Iowa, to Port Canaveral, Florida, and converted it into an off-shore gaming experience. The Diamond Royale became the top performing offshore gaming boat in Florida after just six months of operation.
Since founding HPP, Gary's successful work has included leading sales and marketing efforts for Oceans Casino Cruises (dba SunCruz Casinos). At Oceans, he was responsible for generating nearly one million passengers annually on four casino ships in Florida and South Carolina and $10 million in net gaming revenue. He also directly supervised player development, advertising and sales, leading 40 employees and initiating online free casino games where players won sweepstake entries redeemable onboard the ships. This effort alone drove 1500 new passenger visits monthly.
